When Washington State became the first U.S. epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team at MultiCare Health System quickly recognized the urgency of securing as many ventilators as possible to provide adequate care to patients in their community. Shortages were already beginning and MultiCare was forced to think creatively. They partnered with an unlikely source: a veterinary hospital agreed to allow MultiCare Health System to borrow its stock of ventilators for the duration of the pandemic. But there was a challenge – the available ventilators were hundreds of miles away and needed to be picked up immediately. As MultiCare’s logistics partner, MedSpeeders drove hundreds of miles to locations throughout Washington and Oregon to collect the ventilators. We transported them to the main hospital, where they were stored and deployed as needed.
Difficult situations challenge us to innovate. That has certainly been true for MedSpeed and our customers thus far in 2020 and I’m certain it will continue to be true as the pandemic continues.
