Since the actual legislation is 900+ pages, I don’t know too many people who have read the entire thing. That is probably why there have been a plethora of summaries published since the act passed. However, I recently read a piece in Becker’s Hospital Review that I believe is among the most concise and understandable recaps of what has happened, what is still to come, and what hospitals are doing and can continue to do to prepare. I highly recommend this to anyone who is getting up to speed on what is included in healthcare reform and the impact it will have.
One thing of note is that within the article, Mr. Wade Rose of San Francisco’s Dignity Health notes that the PPACA might be more successful than efforts of the past because 95 percent of the bill has to do with delivery system change, rather than mere funding changes. While that is no surprise, it is worth pointing out.
I’d be interested in your feedback about the article, and what kinds of steps your organization is taking to prepare for 2014.
