25 Years Strong: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future

Twenty-five years ago, MedSpeed was just an idea—a concept I had the privilege of developing with a classmate during my time at the University of Chicago. That idea won the Edward L. Kaplan, ’71, New Venture Challenge, but at the time, I never could have imagined the incredible journey that lay ahead. Today, as I reflect on a quarter-century of MedSpeed, I am both humbled and inspired by how far our team has come.
On April 10, 2000, we officially launched MedSpeed and gained our first laboratory customer in Illinois. We were small but determined, driven by a vision to transform healthcare logistics—not just moving materials, but becoming a fully integrated partner for laboratories. We expanded into Indiana by 2002 and took our first step beyond our home state.
By 2007, we had started serving health systems, a pivotal moment in our evolution. We realized that by integrating logistics at an enterprise level, we could help our customers streamline operations and, ultimately, improve patient care. That insight fueled our expansion, and by 2010, MedSpeed had grown to 200 team members, serving customers in six states.
The next decade was one of incredible growth. By 2015, MedSpeed had expanded to 24 states with a team of 1,100, deepening our relationships with health systems across the country. In 2020, as the world faced COVID-19, an unprecedented challenge, MedSpeeders rose to the occasion, ensuring that critical healthcare logistics continued without disruption. It was a defining moment that reaffirmed our purpose.
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, MedSpeed has grown to a team of over 3,400, operating in 33 states. Throughout this journey, it has been – and remains – all about our mission to deliver health and the people that make that mission happen, the MedSpeeders who show up every day with passion and dedication and the customers who trust us as an extension of their organizations
Looking ahead, healthcare continues to evolve and the need for seamless, high-quality logistics has never been greater. MedSpeed will continue to innovate, grow, and strengthen our partnerships to support the future of healthcare.
